Wegman's Will Stop Using Plastic Bags At End Of The Month

Syracuse, N.Y. - The state may have outlawed plastic grocery bags in March, but Wegmans plans on making that change right away.

The grocery chain announcing today that they'll be plastic-bag free on Monday, January 27th. In addition, Wegmans will charge 5 cents for each paper bag they provide. In those counties where there's no locally mandated fee for those bags, Wegmans will donate that money to the Food Bank of Central New York.

Wegmans is hopeful their customers will turn to reusable bags, which are available in many locations including Wegmans, who sells them for about a dollar.
