Nursing Home Employee Accused Of Slapping Patient

Syracuse, N.Y. - A former nursing home employee is pleading not guilty to charges after being accused of a 90-year-old patient:

Syracuse Police say that Cania Williams slapped the elderly woman in the face with a wet cloth, causing busing, in October at the Bishop Rehabilitation Center. Police say they arrested her last week. She was in court yesterday.

The 29 year-old is a certified nurse aide. She is facing a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person. If she is found guilty she could be behind bars for a year.

Williams has since resigned her position with Bishop Rehabilitation.

The facility was formerly known as James Square. New owners changed the name and have been working to improve the facility that had developed a negative reputation.
