Clay Warehouse Tax Breaks Up For Vote Tonight

Syracuse, N.Y. - There will be a meeting today about the warehouse in Clay.

The special meeting by the Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency will be held at the OnCenter. The meeting begins at 8:30 p.m. They are planning to vote on tax breaks for the massive facility.

The developer is set to receive a 15-year tax deal that could save them as much as $66 million. They will be paying $2.6 million dollars in lieu of taxes on the 3.7 million square foot warehouse. That is about $900,000 less per yer than they would have paid if fully taxed.

For Onondaga County the deal is the largest deal they have ever made. The facility would go where the Liverpool Golf Course and Country Club is now. The distribution is expected to generate $28 million a year in taxes over 15 years. Right now, the golf course pays $800,000 a year.

Plans were approved by the County's Planning Board yesterday. Town Officials in Clay are also working to rezone the area for the distribution center.
