FBI Arrests Soldier Who Allegedly Discussed Plan To Bomb Major News Network

Officials Discuss Florida Anti-Terrorism Raid

The FBI arrested a soldier in the U.S. Army after he allegedly discussed plans to carry out a bombing at the headquarters of a major news network with an undercover agent. Jarrett William Smith was charged with distributing information relating to weapons of mass destruction after he admitted to sharing instructions on how to build bombs with like-minded individuals online.

"He admitted that he provides this information even to individuals who tell him they intend to use the information to cause harm to others," the agent wrote in the complaint. "Smith stated that he did this to cause 'chaos.' He told me that if chaos results in the death of people, even through information he provided it, it doesn't affect him."

The FBI said that two of the bomb designs he shared would not have created a working device.

In one exchange with the undercover agent, Smith suggested using a vehicle bomb to carry out an attack against a major news network.

"A large vehicle bomb. Fill a vehicle full of [explosives] then fill a ping pong ball with [commonly available chemical] via drilling then injection. Put the ball in the tank of the vehicle and leave. 30 minutes later, BOOM."

Smith also spoke about killing members of the left-wing group Antifa and suggested killing Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke when asked who would be a person to target from Texas.

Smith faces up to 20 years behind bars if he is convicted.
