Pittsburgh, Penn. - There's a new development involving the future of ShoppingTown Mall.
The owners of the Dewitt shopping center faced a federal bankruptcy court judge in Pittsburgh yesterday. Earlier this month, ShoppingTown filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The judge is allowing the mall owners to access bank accounts needed to pay employees and vendors.
Onondaga County has been trying to take control of the mall after the owners failed to pay nearly $10 million in back taxes. The owner quit paying their taxes years ago. They say their tax assessment is unfair.
