Thruway Authority Approves Contract For Cashless Thruway Tolls

Albany, N.Y. - Cashless tolls on the New York State Thruway are a step closer to becoming a reality.

The Thruway Authority has approved a $355 million contract to move the project forward. The cashless system will charge a driver's EZ Pass account or mail a bill to the address associated with their vehicle's license plate. The system must be online statewide by the end of 2020.

The move is designed to help improve traffic for the roughly 267-million drivers who use the highway every year.
