Open House Today To Discuss Future Of I-81

Syracuse, N.Y. - Many with questions about the future of I-81 will be able to get them answered today.

The state DOT is holding an open house from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Oncenter in Syracuse. In addition to a presentation, there will also be new drawings of the proposed construction for residents to get a look at.

It's been nearly two months since the DOT announced their support for the revamped community grid option. That option would replace the viaduct downtown with street level roads, preserve the highway north and south of downtown, and redirect the interstate to I-481.

Construction could take about five years.
