Voters Statewide Unhappy With Gov. Cuomo's Pay Hike

A new poll shows most New Yorkers are against Governor Cuomo's new pay raise.

Pollsters with Sienna say that 62 percent of registered voters are against the governor now making $200,000 a year. His previous salary was $179,000. It will eventually rise to $225,000 in 2020 and $250,000 in 2021. The salary will make Cuomo the highest paid governor in the nation.

When asked about the new state budget, only 39 percent of those surveyed said it will be good for New York. Though the response to banning plastic bags and making the property tax cap permanent was overwhelmingly positive.

A steep partisan divide remains between Democratic and Republican votes over the issues of legal pot and Statewide single-payer health insurance.
