Sentencing Day For DeWitt Chili's Killer William Wood Jr.

Syracuse, N.Y. - Today is sentencing day for DeWitt Chili's Killer William Wood Jr. but his legal battles stemming from the gruesome robbery are far from over.

Wood pleaded guilty to killing Stephen Gudknecht and Kristopher Hicks during the September 2018 robbery. DA Bill Fitzpatrick says he would have killed two more workers had his gun not jammed.

Hick's Father and Gudknecht's Mother and daughter are expected to speak at the sentencing. Wood is expected to be sentenced to life in prison without parole at the State-level.

Today's court appearance is Wood's first since United States Attorney General William Barr authorized Federal prosecutors in Syracuse to pursue a case against Wood that could punish him with the death penalty. He was indicted in February on federal charges. On Friday, it was announced that the Justice Department would prosecute Wood.
