Grand Jury Clears Syracuse Police Officer in Officer-Involved Shooting

The Onondaga County Grand Jury has cleared a Syracuse police officer of wrongdoing in an officer-involved shooting.

District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick says the grand jury found that Officer Andrew Murphy was justified in shooting Tyiesha Fletcher during an incident on February 17. Murphy was among several officers responding to a domestic incident at Frisbie Court. While officers tried to calm down Fletcher, who had two knives in her hands, she charged at Murphy. He fired, hitting Fletcher in the abdomen. She was taken to Upstate Hospital, where she was treated and eventually released. Fitzpatrick says the grand jury did indict Fletcher for menacing a police officer and criminal mischief.
