Lies Could Land Former Upstate Chief Of Staff Behind Bars

Syracuse, N.Y. - The former Chief of Staff at SUNY Upstate Medical University, who resigned last year after being caught lying, has been arrested for more lies he told to get the job in the first place.

Onondaga County DA Bill Fitzpatrick says Sergio Garcia has been charged with Offering a False Instrument for Filing and Defrauding the Government.

Garcia is accused of lying on his application to SUNY Upstate about earning a Bachelor’s Degree. According to Fitzpatrick, Garcia also never held the title of "Chief of Staff" at the State Department like he claimed.

The case is still under investigation in Onondaga County and with the New York State Inspector General.
