Jefferson County Couple Arrested On Robbery Charges After Crashing On 81

Watertown, N.Y. - Last Friday State Police in Watertown responded to a report of a Robbery.

The victim claimed a female acquaintance and an unknown male forced themselves into his apartment and stole a backpack that contained items and 500 dollars in cash.

Police identified the suspect's vehicle as one that was reported driving recklessly on 81 and stranded in the median.

Police arrested and charged :

  • James M. Lavancha, age 40 from 17980 County Route 189 Adams, NY was charged with Robbery 2nd degree (class “C” felony), Driving While Impaired by Drugs (unclassified misdemeanor), and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree (class “A” misdemeanor). 

  • Kara L. Garnsey, age 23, from 11470 County Route 9 Clayton, NY was charged with Robbery 2nd degree (class “C” felony) and Criminal Possession of a Controlled substance 7th degree (class “A” misdemeanor).
