Magnarelli Supports End Of Religious Vaccine Exemption

Syracuse, N.Y. - CNY State Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli is signing on to end the religious exemption for vaccinations.

He is among 7 co-sponsors of a bill that would end families from being allowed to avoid vaccinations on the basis of religion.

New York bans children from attending school that have not been vaccinated. The only exemptions to that are for medical and religious reasons.

The law is in response to an increase in measles cases in the state that are mostly in religiously cloistered communities downstate.

Meantime, lawmakers are considering a bill this week to let teens get vaccinated without their parents' consent.
