Major Winter Storm Strikes Central New York

Winter Storm Warnings are now in place across Central New York.

The warning is for most of Upstate New York and lasts until 4:00 p.m. Sunday.

"This could be the biggest winter storm of the season," says Accuweather Meteorologist Bill Daeger. "Expect blizzard conditions late Saturday night, travel will be extremely difficult and dangerous." Daeger says to expect a foot of snow to fall everywhere in CNY, with some areas dealing with close to two feet of snow by the end of the Day on Sunday.

Once the flakes stop flying, bitter cold is expected to settle in across the region. Then, on Monday expect some Lake Effect Snow to add a couple more inches in some spots.

Beginning at 3:00 p.m. Saturday all tractor trailers will be banned from the New York State Thruway. They will be allowed back on once the storm is over. The ban includes the full length of I-90 through the State as well as I-81 from the Pennsylvania to the Canadian border.

"Safety is our number one priority and with the anticipated storm impacting most of New York State, we are implementing this ban on tractor trailers and buses so our plow operators, fire, law enforcement and emergency personnel can keep roads clean and respond to emergencies as quickly as possible," Governor Cuomo said. "I am also urging drivers to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary."
