Chaos Taints Start Of Slain 12-Year-Old's Vigil

Syracuse, N.Y. - A fight erupted at the vigil to honor a 12-year-old shot and killed Wednesday night.

Syracuse police descended on a vigil last night after a fight broke out and someone showed up with a weapon. The vigil was being held for James Springer III.

The vigil was being held near Park and East Division Streets -- the same block where the boy was shot. As people ran away from they ran the same path that Springer ran before he collapsed.

Many that had shown up did not return once police arrived.

Eventually, the vigil went on without any other disturbances.
