Nicki Minaj is being criticized for comparing herself to Harriet Tubman.
The rapper was talking about her Queen album on Twitter yesterday when she said the civil rights leader was the queen of the week. She also said history would have been a lot less triumphant if Tubman had "just sat there and ate her rice."
All the QUEENS I remember, SHOOK SHIT UP!!!!!!!! Queen of the week may go to HARRIET TUBMAN!!!!!! Had she just sat there & ate her rice, you niggaz history would’ve been a lot less triumphant. 🦄— QUEEN (@NICKIMINAJ) August 20, 2018
Minaj then told TMZ while on her way to the MTV Video Music Awards, "I am the new Harriet Tubman."
Through the 1850s Tubman was a conductor on the Underground Railroad. The escaped slave had first settled in Canada and ran her operations from there before eventually relocating to Auburn in 1858.
