Former School Board Member Sentenced: Tried To Meet With A 12 Year Old

Cayuga County, N.Y. - A former West Genesee School board member has been sentenced to serve half a year in jail for trying to sexually abuse a child.

46 year old  James M. Soper, of Onondaga, was sentenced to 10 years probation for driving to the Fingerlakes Mall in Aurelius to have sexual contact with someone he believed to be was a 12-year-old girl. 

He will spend six months of his sentence in the Cayuga County Jail, the rest on probation. 

At the time of his arrest, Soper was serving on West Genesee's school board.

Along with the 10 years probation, Soper will have to register as a sex offender.
