The President is closer to picking a Supreme Court nominee, those trapped kids in Thailand have a long way to go, and the heat wave is about to end...

Here are "The Top 5 Things You Need To Know Today" for Thursday, July 5, 2018:

1)

PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS SPOKEN WITH THREE MORE POSSIBLE SUPREME COURT NOMINEES

POTUS has interviewed seven so far, but his short list is probably more like four, and legal experts think it could wind up being Judge Amy Coney Barrett. However, nominating someone is one thing, confirming them is something else, and it could get pretty heated in the Senate.

2)

THE ORDEAL FOR THOSE TRAPPED KIDS IN THAILAND IS FAR FROM OVER

All doing okay - they've been stuck in that cave almost two weeks -  but getting them out will be tough. They will likely have to swim out with SCUBA gear and help from experts, but cave diving is dangerous for even experienced pros, and some of these kids never learned to swim! Hoping for the best...

3)

HE SERVED AND PROTECTED WITH HONOR, BUT NOW WE SAY OUR FINAL FAREWELL

New York State Trooper Nicholas Clark, killed by gunfire in the line of duty a few days ago, will be laid to rest this weekend. Calling hours are Saturday afternoon, the funeral is Sunday morning. All services to take place on the campus of Alfred University.

4)

SHE MARKED THE FOURTH OF JULY IN A UNIQUE WAY

Therese Okoumou tried scaling the Statue of Liberty yesterday, part of a general "RESIST" protest, and specifically to call for uniting kids with their illegal immigrant parents. NYPD got to her, calmed her down, lowered her to safety... and promptly arrested her. She's facing multiple charges. Maybe she believes it was all worth it...

5)

HANG IN THERE, THE HEAT WAVE IS JUST ABOUT TO BREAK!

Some sweltering weather today, but showers and thunderstorms later today and tonight will finally cool things off. Temperatures in the 70's by tomorrow afternoon, gorgeous weather on Saturday. At last!
