Bill To Forgive N Syr School $20M Penalty Needs Only Governor's Signature

North Syracuse's $20 million debt to the state will be erased if the governor agrees to it.

The state assembly passed a bill forgiving the school district of the $20 million, which are penalties for long-past failings to file final cost reports.  The state senate has already approved the bill, which leaves just a signature from Governor Cuomo to make it law.  Assemblyman Al Stirpe authored the legislation and said in a statement that without the bill to forgive the debt, the millions in penalties would have resulted in cuts to vital programs.
