Rezoning In DeWitt To Save Shopping Town Mall Concerns Residents

posted by Ian Wheatley -

DeWitt, N.Y. - A zoning change is being considered in the Town of DeWitt that could revamp how the area of Shopping Town Mall is used.

The changes would allow developers to build mixed-use properties in three designated zones in the town. The Erie Bouelvard/East Genesee Street corridor -- which includes Shopping Town Mall -- the Thompson Road/James Street corridor and the area around New Court Avenue. The multi-story buildings would contain both businesses and apartments.

Some residents expressed concern about the plan at a Town meeting Monday night. Concerns ranged from stress on emergency services and schools to the folks renting the apartments not paying their fair share in taxes.
