Syracuse Musician And Founder Of Local Rock Band Dies In UTV Accident

Saturday morning around 11, Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported fatal UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle) accident in the woods between Vern King Rd and RT 11 in the Town of Homer. 

The operator was the only occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by Cortland County Coroner Whitney Meeker. 

The operator was identified as 75 year old Don Barber of Homer.  

The UTV left the trail and struck a tree, ejecting Barber from the vehicle. The trail was used to access a hunting camp in the woods. 

Barber is well known as a recording artists and musician in the Syracuse area. He was in the band Don Barber and the Dukes for many years.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
