Woman Who Accused Texas Trooper of Rape Won't Face Additional Charges

A woman who falsely accused a Texas DPS trooper of rape will not face any additional charges the Ellis County District Attorney's office said.

Fox 4 reports that the announcement by the Ellis County District Attorney's office means that no additional criminal charges will be filed against Sherita-Dixon Cole for her "blatantly false and malicious allegations" because no formal complaint to an authorized officer was made.

Dixon-Cole was thrust into the national spotlight after she claimed that a DPS trooper who pulled her over on suspicion of drunk driving had raped her during the arrest. However, body camera footage released by the department later showed that there was no merit to her claims.

"Upon learning of the allegations today, the department immediately took action to review the dash cam video. The video shows absolutely no evidence to support the serious accusations against the Trooper during the DWI arrest of the suspect," the department said in a statement.

After she was arrested, Dixon-Cole contacted several people in which she detailed the false allegations against the trooper who arrested her. Officials say it was from those phone calls that the allegations eventually went viral.

Ellis County District Attorney Patrick Wilson released a statement

“The real harm, in this case, was caused when outside parties with no concern for the truth employed social media to ignite flames of malice and discontent.  That bell, once rung, cannot be un-rung.  Sadly, the situation that unfolded here in Ellis County over the past five days is being repeated in communities all across our country every day.  In our fast-paced, social media-driven world, truth and justice too often take a back seat to misguided keyboard anger.  As we know, there are tragic consequences for that behavior.  Baseless digital rage can create real world, innocent victims.  As things stand in our world today, there is no reason to think the problem will soon be solved.”
