Syracuse Police Will Add Body Cameras This Summer

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Syracuse Police Department is looking to equip more officers with body cameras in an effort to keep neighborhoods safe.

Private company AXON is providing 100 cameras free of charge for one year.  After, the price would jump to nearly $190,000 for the following year.

The pilot-program will last one year and is meant to make both officers and the public feel more comfortable when officers wear the camera.

The goal is to have officers equipped by June.
