Suspicious Death Now Ruled A Homicide

Monday morning around 9:30 AM Syracuse Police Officers responded to a 911 call in the 100 block of Oberst Street. A person called 911 to report seeing a dead body behind a vacant house.  When police arrived they found a male in his 30’s, down on the ground. He was determined to be deceased by medical staff a short time later. 

The male has been identified as 37 year old Charles Nichols. An autopsy determined that the Nichols died of a gunshot wound to his chest. It does not appear that he had been there for an extended period of time, but an exact time of death has not been determined. 

Detectives are currently investigating this incident, but, there is no suspect information available at this time.
