French Ex-President Sarkozy Charged With Taking Libya Campaign Cash

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is charged in an investigation of claims he accepted millions in illegal campaign cash from Libya.  Magistrates last night put Sarkozy under what French law calls formal investigation for passive corruption, illegal campaign funding, and concealing payments from the government of the late Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi.

Sarkozy was questioned all day yesterday and for 15 hours on Tuesday over claims he accepted nearly $52 million from Gaddafi for his 2007 campaign for president.
