The Department of Justice is ramping up efforts to prosecute perpetrators of elder fraud. Attorney General Jeff Sessions says criminals are using technology to target senior citizens and scam them out of their life savings, through fake sweepstakes and crises. He says victims of elder fraud should not be ashamed, because these terrible crimes can happen to anyone. Sessions noted that multiple older relatives of members of his own DOJ staff have been targeted.
He encouraged anyone who thinks he has been the victim of a fraudulent scam to contact the Federal Trade Commission.
