Lafaeyette School District Discovers School Bus Driver Carrying Gun

The Lafayette School District informed parents via a notice Wednesday that a bus driver had been caught with a concealed weapon on school property.

Superintendent Jeremy Belfield told parents that a single student was aboard the bus Wednesday morning when they noticed the driver had a concealed handgun.  The student called a school staff member, who in turn told administrators.  Police were notified immediately.  Belfield told parents that he met with the driver along with police, who was unaware it was illegal to have a gun on school grounds.  The driver, who was not named, is no longer employed by the district.  Belfield told parents the case was turned over to law enforcement.
