Landlord/Tenant Dispute Includes Third Party Charged with Meanacing


A landlord-tenant dispute in Cayuga County escalated into the arrest of a third party who fired a weapon whle on the tenant's property.

Sheriff's deputies says that the tenant told 911  two males were in the yard with a tractor parked in the driveway and posting a large sign in the yard.  A shotgun was fired, and both males left.  Deputies located the vehicle they were in and stopped it after a short pursuit.  Eric Simmons of Owasco was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon, meanacing, and other offenses.  Simmons' passenger was a 14-year-old, who was released to a parent.  Following a court-ordered seizure of all of Simmons' weapons, deputies found several handguns in violation of state law.  Simmons is now being held on 20 thousand dollars bond.
