Off-Duty Parole Officer Killed In Canandaigua Shooting

An off-duty state parole officer was killed in a shooting in Canandaigua Wednesday afternoon.

Department of Corrections officials would not comment on the dead officer other than to say that they are grieving for the loss of one of their own.  Police in Canandaigua say gunfire was exchanged between an police officer and someone inside an apartment complex.  The shooting began when the officer was in the complex and knocking on a door.  Police say that officer was not hurt, but would not comment on who fired shots or why it happened.
