PHOTOS: Remembering Tom Petty

It’s been an entire year since rock legend Tom Petty passed away at 66 years old.

On October 2, 2017, Petty was found dead after an accidental drug overdose. A statement from his family said, “Despite this painful injury he insisted on keeping his commitment to his fans and he toured for 53 dates with a fractured hip and, as he did, it worsened to a more serious injury.” Tom’s wife Dana Petty and daughter Adria Petty, continued, “On the day he died he was informed his hip had graduated to a full-on break and it is our feeling that the pain was simply unbearable and was the cause for his over use of medication.”

Tom Petty is greatly missed, but he lives on through his incredible music and the impact it has made on the world. A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, inducted in 2002, Petty was the lead singer of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, who produced classic hits like “Free Fallin’” and “American Girl.” Tom also released solo music and was the co-founder of ‘80s supergroup the Traveling Wilburys. And over the course of his career being nominated 18 times for a Grammy Award, the rocker took home several of the coveted trophies.
