Cortland Co. Man Gets Jail Time For Starving 143 Alpacas

A Cortland County man has been sentenced to nine months behind bars for allowing 143 alpacas to starve to death on a farm in Marathon last year.

Dayton Woods was a caretaker for the animals and SPCA officials discovered the horrific scene in March of last year.

The Alpacas were found dead in horse trailers and inside a barn on the property. Most died of starvation, but some other alpacas died of disease as well. The District Attorney was hoping for at least a year in jail in the case after Woods was charged with a felony.
