Charges Upgraded Against Liverpool Cop After Hit And Run Death

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Hit-and-run charges against a former prosecutor's investigator and part-time police officer have been upgraded after the New York teenager he allegedly struck died from his injuries.Thirty-seven-year-old Peter Rauch, of Liverpool, was arraigned Friday on a charge of leaving the scene of a fatal car crash, a class D felony. He was initially charged with a class E felony.

The upgraded charge carries a stiffer penalty if convicted.Syracuse police say he hit 18-year-old Seth Collier early Tuesday as the teen walked on a street. Police say Rauch fled the scene on foot.Collier died Thursday at a hospital.Rauch, an investigator for the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office, was fired later Tuesday. 

He was suspended by the Liverpool Police Department.An off-duty Syracuse firefighter following Rauch in another vehicle has been suspended amid the investigation.
