State Police Issue Warnings Ahead Of Snowstorm

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — State police are advising motorists in parts of upstate New York to avoid unnecessary travel during the approaching storm that's expected to dump as much as 2 feet of snow in some areas.

Troopers in a region stretching along the Hudson River Valley from New York City's northern suburbs to the Albany area say the storm will bring heavy snow, icy roads and potential whiteout conditions starting Tuesday.The National Weather Service says eastern parts of the state could receive 12 to 18 inches of snow, with up to 24 inches possible in the Catskill Mountains.

 Forecasters say wind gusts of up to 40 mph are possible in some areas.Western and central New York are expected to get 8 to 18 inches of snow in some areas, with the Adirondacks getting up to 12 inches.
