Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner hosting 2 meetings on the city's "immigration offer" last night. Some 300 people showed up for the 6pm meeting with Mayor Miner at the "pastime athletic club" which only holds 150 people. That forced a 2nd meeting at 7pm.
The Mayor told capacity crowds at both sessions that federal officials are still considering her offer to host migrant children at a 6 building complex on the city's north side while those children are awaiting deportation.
The facility, she said, would not house any criminals or gang members, nor any sick children or the mentally ill. She said “these are not illegal immigrants, they are refugees.”
The mayor said no final decision is expected until congress approves the funding.
Mayor Miner stops by 570 WSYR to recap the Town Hall meeting. Listen to the full interview below.
