James Tormey, Icon In CNY Courts, Dead At 68

Syracuse, N.Y. - An icon in Central New York courts died this afternoon.

Judge James Tormey the Third died Saturday. Tormey is survived by his wife, Susan, their two children and three grandchildren.

Tormey was first elected to the Onondaga County Legislature in 1976. He was first elected to the bench in Syrcause City Court in '87, and would then go on to the State Supreme Court in '95. Since the year 2000, Tormey oversaw the 300 judges and courts in Onondaga, Oneida, Oswego, Jefferson, Herkimer and Lewis counties.
