CNY Unemployment Is Dropping

Syracuse, N.Y. - A new report shows there are fewer people looking for work in the Syracuse region.

The State Labor Department says the unemployment rate was 4.1 percent in August.  That's down from the five percent it was during the same time last year.

The rate is down because there are more jobs. There were about 3,400 more jobs in Onondaga, Oswego, and Madison counties for the month of August than there were in the same month last year.

CNY's unemployment rate for August was the same as the statewide rate but, it was a bit higher than the National rate of 3.9 percent.
