Syracuse Police Shoot Man After He Opened Fire On Officers

Syracuse, N.Y. - Syracuse Police say officers shot a man after a Salina Street shootout Sunday Afternoon. 

Police say that just before 2:15 p.m. they were looking for a man was acting suspiciously with a gun near West Ostrander Ave and Cannon Street.  

Officers found that man on South Salina Street and as they approached the man he opened fire. The attacker shot several times at officers before police shot back hitting him.  The shooter ran away but police were able to chase him down, recover the gun, and arrest him. 

None of the officers involved were hurt in the attack and the attacker was taken to the hospital where he is expected to recover.

As is the procedure in officer involved shootings, the Police Department will name the officers involved 72-hours after the shooting.
