Elmira Police Chase Ends In Robbery Suspect Shot Dead

Police in the Southern Tier city of Elmira found themselves in a chase with a robbery suspect that ended with a man shot dead.

Police in Elmira say the chase began after a report of a home invasion robber at 5 am on Thursday where police believed the suspect fired shots inside the home.  Police began a search for James Davis and found him around 9 am in Horseheads.  They say Davis fired at officers, who returned fire and hit Davis.  He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.  Davis later died.  Authorities report that Davis was wanted by the state department of parole and also wanted for a previous robbery.
