SCRIBA, N.Y. (AP) _ A 31-year-old contractor working in the recycling area of an upstate New York aluminum plant has been killed in an industrial accident.

Oswego County sheriff's investigators identify the dead man as Steven Cooper, of Phoenix. He died Monday afternoon in the accident at Novelis Corp. in the Town of Scriba.

Cooper had worked at the plant for several years. The company has not said what he was doing when the accident occurred.

Police say a worker died three years ago after an accident at Novelis' aluminum rolling plant in Scriba.

Novelis is the world's largest producer of aluminum for the automobile industry. It recently installed a new aluminum automotive sheet finishing line and expanded recycling of automotive scrap at the plant.

Investigators say the accident remains under investigation.
