State senator Dave Valesky is among legislators releasing a report that targets thousands of state regulatory practices he says are putting the state's business at a competitive disadvantage.

Valesky says the 2,219 specific rules, regulations and practices are just a fraction of the 750,000 total regulations on the books. While no number has been calculated to represent the economic cost of regulations in New York, Valesky says a recent Small Business Administration study found the total i impact of federal regulations on the US economy in 2008 was $1.75 trillion - about 12% of the total economy.

Valesky says the state report is the product of surveys, meetings, community outreach and input from over 100 business owners and others across New York.
