Syracuse police turned another traffic stop into an arrest and recovery of a weapon.

An officer on patrol saw a vehicle run a stop sign and pulled them over on James Street. The officer determined the driver didn't have a valid license and the plates on the car had been switched. After asking the driver to exit the vehicle, the officer noticed a shotgun under the driver's seat with several live rounds next to it. The officer took the driver into custody and secured the weapon, which was determined to have a sawed-off barrel and destroyed serial number.

The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Erick Burch of Syracuse. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, as well as the infractions of disobeying a stop sign, unlicensed operation, unregistered motor vehicle, and uninspected motor vehicle. Burch was taken to the Justice Center and will be arraigned today in Syracuse City Criminal Court.
