ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) _ New York is set to launch the first statewide effort in the nation using an innovative school-to-career program.

More than 6,000 New York students are expected to join the program in 2014. It teaches high school students additional workplace skills with the help of mentors. The program continues through community colleges and graduates will be ``first in line'' for jobs at certain companies. The participating schools include Binghamton, Syracuse, and Rochester.
