Syracuse, N.Y. - A Republican county comptroller from Central New York is running to be the state's top financial watchdog.
Onondaga County Comptroller Robert Antonacci announced his campaign for state comptroller Wednesday in Syracuse. He says his background and his experience in the county show he's ready to take on the office's responsibilities.
Antonacci is a lawyer and certified public accountant who was first elected to his county position in 2007.
Incumbent Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, a Democrat, is seeking re-election.
The comptroller's office oversees the state's pension system, manages state assets and issues audits and reports on state finances and contracts.
The Republican Party will gather next week in Westchester County for its nominating convention.
