Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that deputies are investigating a deadly motor vehicle collision that occurred this afternoon in the Town of Clay.
At about 12:45 PM this afternoon, a Hyundai operated by 25 year old Christine Knighton of Pennellville was traveling east on Route 31 at Henry Clay Boulevard. Knighton lost control of her vehicle on the icy pavement and drove into the west bound lane of Route 31. The Hyundai was then struck on the passenger side in a T-bone fashion by a Dodge traveling west on Route 31.
After the initial impact, the Hyundai then struck a telephone pole. Knighton was extracted from her vehicle and transported by ambulance to Upstate Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Dodge, Joshua Lawton of Oswego suffered no apparent physical injury.
The front seat passenger of the Dodge, 28 year old Emma Wilson of Cato suffered non-apparent life threatening leg injuries. Both occupants of the Dodge were transported by ambulance to Crouse Hospital.
Both vehicles’ front airbags deployed.
Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigations Team is currently investigating the collision.
