Seneca County Sheriffs Deputies are investigating a deadly car crash Thursday morning that killed a man from New Jersey.

Police say the driver of the car fell asleep behind the wheel and veered off the highway in the Town of Covert and a passenger in the car died.

Deputies say the car was being driven by 49 year old Bernice Hammonds of Dundee, Florida on State Route 96 when she fell asleep, veered off the highway and slammed into a ditch.

67 year old Willy Johnson, a passener in her car, was killed in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other passengers in the car, 53 year old James Parker and 55 year old Marshall Watson, were seriously injured in the accident.

Hammonds complained of chest pain after the crash. No tickets have been issued as deputies continue their investigation of the accident.
