CORTLAND, N.Y. (AP) _ A central New York county is getting $2.5 million in federal funding for its Early Learning and Head Start programs.
The money for Cortland County Community Action Program will help provide education and development services for low-income children.
In announcing the grant Monday, U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand calls it a smart investment that can help give children in the region a chance to ``start out strong.''
Program director Brian Rozewski says the money will be used to serve expectant mothers and children up to five years old.
The programs focus on preparing children for school.
