Syracuse, N.Y. - The Syracuse Common Council has thrown in a last minute tax increase after the mayor said there would not be one.

The council voted unanimously to raise city taxes by 1.5% -- which would bring in about $500,000 in additional revenue for the city.

The unanimous decision means that if Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner were to veto the tax increase, the council would likely have enough votes to override the mayor’s veto.
