An overwhelming vote in Cicero against a new fire station.

The issue for firefighters was safety but, for taxpayers in Cicero it was a question of money.

Firefighters claimed the existing fire station was too close to the street, making it risky to bring the heavy equipment in and out.

They said the old building was too small and showing some wear and tear.
Taxpayers however, decided they don't want to spend nearly $6 million dollars to tear down the old fire station and build a new one.

The vote against a new fire station was decided by more than a 2-1 margin. 184 people voted no and 80 people voted yes.
